The United Greek Council (UGC) is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member organizations. The UGC is divided into two "sub-councils," the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Each organization is represented at UGC meetings and corresponding sub-council meeting to discuss and vote on matters concerning member organizations and the Greek community.

The United Greek Council at Western Illinois University is one of three Greek Governing Councils; the other two are the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the Panhellenic Council (PHC). The three councils work together and advocate for community needs. The three council are working on cross-council collaboration to help students achieve a greater level of success within the Greek community.

The United Greek Council at Western Illinois University is comprised of 13 chapters.  The MGC is made of 6 chapters and the NPHC is composed of 7 of the 9 historically Black fraternities and sororities, also referred to as the "Divine Nine." The chapters at Western Illinois are listed below.
